Panama December 6, 2023. New technologies and innovation are fundamental allies in the health sector; these tools make it possible to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases, as well as to optimize resources and healthcare processes.

Health is a universal and high-priority issue, and innovation in this domain must improve the quality of life of patients and the working conditions of medical personnel., said Philippe Aniorté, director of the National Institute for Advanced Scientific Research in Information and Communication Technologies (INDICATIC AIP).

INDICATIC AIP, through its director, had an outstanding participation in the Central American Health Innovation Summit held in Panama City, whose objective was to bring together key industry players to share ideas and collaborate on solutions to the challenges facing health systems throughout the region.

The conference included a variety of panels and presentations, with a focus on key topics in healthcare management such as digital transformation, therapeutic innovation, smart hospital infrastructure, and artificial intelligence and big data analytics.

In the panel “Big Data and Artificial Intelligence”.”, Dr. Aniorté pointed out that intelligent systems in healthcare are a great challenge for humanity, since these connected systems generate a large amount of data that produce information and knowledge, so when processing the data it is essential to validate its content.

This panel included contributions from Ángela Delgado, manager of technological innovation Pacífica Salud (Panama); Philippé Aniorté, director of INDICATIC AIP; Eduardo Rodríguez Cubillo, chief medical information officer of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (Costa Rica); Yans Luis Mella Pendás, administrator of the electronic clinical record of the National Hospital (Panama) and Peter Díaz, founding partner and CEO Maxia Inc Panama, who was the moderator.

The target audience of the Central America and Caribbean Health Innovation Summit organized by Bamberg Health encompassed a wide range of healthcare stakeholders based in the CamCar region (Central America and the Caribbean). This involved: regulators and government officials, innovators (entrepreneurs and start-ups working in the field of healthcare technology and innovation), clinicians, healthcare executives, researchers, academics, and industry professionals.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn from experts in these fields, network with other professionals and discuss strategies to improve healthcare in Central America and the Caribbean.

New technologies facilitate communication between health professionals and patients, promote education and medical research. For these reasons, the health sector must invest in the incorporation and development of these technologies, which represent an opportunity to improve the quality of life of people and the efficiency of the health system.
